Ever since I saw her singing in a Youtube video of her song Rolling in the Deep, I've become an avid Adele fan. I couldn't wait to download all her songs from her award winning album 21 so I just bought a CD at Odyssey. I really don't care if it's quite pricey I just wanna listen to Adele over and over again. I don't regret buying it because I love all the songs, most of them touching on heartbreak and picking up the pieces. I kinda relate with some of them as most of you will once you listen to the album. My favorites are Rolling in the Deep, Turning Tables, Set Fire to the Rain, and Take It All. Merienda at Icebergs

A few days ago, my bff Jenny and I had our occasional "catching up" and "pigging out" session. At first we drove around the SM Mall of Asia grounds to see where we can eat but eventually settled for a a place away from everyone else. Icebergs at Harbour Square in the CCP Complex. The place was so quiet. Aside from us, there was this one family having merienda. This wasn't the first time I ate food from Icebergs so I wasn't surprised at how yummy everything was. I had burger and nachos delivered a few months ago via my City Delivery GCs and I kinda promised myself that it's not gonna be the last. We ordered their Mighty AJ's Beef Burger Meal which was rather big so we shared it. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a picture of the burger and started devouring right away. We also ordered their Icebergs Tower which was a combination of six scoops of different ice cream flavors with almonds, brownies, and banana. It was so delicious!

So the next time you go out with your family or friends for merienda, I suggest you try dining at Icebergs. If you're tired of the usual fast food chains, this is really a very good alternative. The price is also reasonable and there's a variety of choices including Kiddie Spaghetti with Southern Fried Chicken, Ribeye Tapsilog, Korean Beef BBQ, Halo-halo, Sundae, Con Hielo, and a lot more.

Last December I joined a Facebook promo by Tous Les Jours, a new bakeshop here in the Philippines with branches in SM Southmall and SM City North Edsa. It was launched in Korea in 1996 and now has over 1,700 stores. Luckily, I was one of the 8 winners and won myself a chocolate cake. Just My Luck

I guess things are really looking up for me this year. As early as last week I've already won four online contests and hoping to win more in the coming days since I've been joining left and right since the year started. My relationship with my family and friends, as well as my love life, have all been smooth sailing so far. As for my finances, I must say I can't really complain. I can buy the things I need and then some. Honestly, life couldn't get better than this and I'm so thankful to God. According to my Chinese Zodiac Horoscope (year of the Ox), this year will be okay for me as long as I continue working hard. It also says that it's gonna be a year of changes for the Ox and it could be quite unsettling if I don't learn how to handle these changes. I've always been up for challenges and having a bit of a change in my daily routine or in my life for that matter, would do me some good. I'm quite excited by the thought.

Heavenly Flavors at Buffet 101 International Cuisine

My sister and her family had a short vacation two weeks ago from China. For our last dinner before they went to San Francisco, CA where they will spend their Christmas, we went to Buffet 101 International Cuisine. I saw the restaurant from the hotel room where they're staying and immediately googled it. I was rather taken aback with the price because it was more expensive than Vikings but I was still curious since I read several reviews about it and all were positive.

We went there around 5:30 pm on a Friday and didn't have any difficulty reserving our seats but waited for another 30 minutes to get in. As we were escorted to our seats I noticed how beautiful the interiors were. It was as if I was dining in a five-star hotel. The place was really spacious and the ambiance, really classy. But I was rather speechless with the food. It was incredible! I can't even remember how much I ate that night. I would have to say I've never been more full in my life. There's a wide choice of Filipino, American, Italian, Japanese, and French cuisine. I ate chicken, Italian pizza, California maki, mashed potato, fresh vegetable salad, salmon sashimi, quesadilla, and spicy frankfurters. For dessert I had cream puff, tiramisu, and parfait. For drinks I had mango juice. I wanted to eat more but my tummy couldn't take any more. As we headed home, I promised myself that I would come back for more of their heavenly dishes.

Adgitize Closing

I read in the Facebook page of Filipina Bloggers United that Adgitize will be closing in January. Too bad since I was thinking of renewing my advertisement with them. I'm actually a new member and have only started last November. I haven't even received my payment. But I read in Adgitize's blog post that payments will be done in January 10. You can check out Adgitize's home page if you want more information on this. Adgitize has really helped me a lot in terms of my traffic and I have become more familiar with other blogs. My Christmas Wish List

When I was young I would often write all my wishes on a piece of paper hoping that Santa Claus would give them all. There were times when all the toys I wished for were given and other times when they weren't. Now that I'm no longer a kid, I don't write my wishes anymore on a piece of paper but it doesn't mean that I don't have a wish list. I still have one. I don't know if I'll be able to get all of them before the year ends but I will try very hard to get them next year. I also hope that my family or friends will be nice enough to give one or all of them to me (hehehe!). Without further ado here they are:

1.) iPad - my dream gadget. I can't afford it now but hopefully next year I'll have enough money saved to purchase one.

2.) BlackBerry - I need a new phone and BlackBerry is my first choice if ever I buy one.

3.) Cambridge Satchel - I just love how stylish this bag looks. Plus, it can serve as a laptop bag so I can bring my netbook anywhere I go.

4.) Buffet lunch at Vikings or Spiral - As anyone who knows me can attest, I eat like a horse. I just love eating. I've heard so many positive things about Vikings and how satisfied customers are after eating there. So it's one of the things I'd like to do before the year ends. The same goes with Spiral Restaurant at Sofitel Philippine Plaza.

5.) Salon pampering - I'd like to feel like a queen or a movie star even for just a day. I would love to have my hair done, have a facial, hand paraffin, and last but not the least, a manicure.

Frying Pan Lasagna Recipe

I seldom cook but whenever I get the urge to whip up something good, I rely on the internet to give some really awesome recipes. As I was searching for the best mouth watering recipe I chanced upon the 30-minute Frying Pan Lasagna recipe. The photo just caught my fancy because it looks really delicious. I might try it this weekend or next week when my sister and her family arrive from China. It will really be a nice treat for them. I'm sure everyone will love it not just the kids.

Frying Pan Lasagna

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons olive oil
1 medium red finely chopped onion
2 garlic cloves crushed
1 medium red capsicum finely chopped
2 teaspoons dried oregano
410g can crushed tomatoes
3 fresh lasagne sheets cut into thirds
1/2 x 250g tub cream cheese
100g shaved leg ham
3/4 cup grated tasty cheese
Chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves, to serve

Directions:

Heat half the oil in an 18cm (base), heavy-based frying pan over medium-high heat. Add onion, garlic and capsicum. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Add oregano and tomato. Season with salt. Cook for 2 minutes or until heated through. Transfer to a bowl. Wipe pan clean.
Spread 1 side of each piece of lasagne with cream cheese. Drizzle remaining oil over base of pan. Arrange 2 pieces of lasagne, cream cheese side-up, over base of pan. Top with one-third of the ham, then one-quarter tomato mixture. Repeat layers, finishing with 3 pieces of lasagne then 1 layer tomato mixture. Sprinkle with tasty cheese. Preheat grill on high.
Return pan to medium-low heat. Cook, covered, for 8 to 10 minutes or until lasagne sheets are tender. Remove lid. Grill for 5 to 6 minutes or until cheese is melted and golden. Season with pepper. Sprinkle with parsley. Serve.

Christmas Shopping

I've started my Christmas shopping already just this morning. I started looking for a toy for my nephew in ebay. I spotted a few toys I liked but haven't bought anything yet. Just added them on my watch list. Then I looked for earrings and bracelets in ebay too. I like about 3 to 4 pairs of earrings but again haven't decided yet since I'm on a budget. I might end up buying only 2. It's a good thing they're from the same seller so I'll be able to save on the shipping cost.

Then I looked for a blouse to go with the earrings I liked the most. I found this online shop in Facebook which I bought a blouse from before and saw this really pretty blouse. I immediately bought it since the design is really pretty. I'd be looking for more online shops to buy gifts from for my family and friends. I will also try to buy gifts from department stores if I have the time. Online shopping is just something that's so convenient and less time consuming.

So if I were you guys I would look around for online shops and do my shopping there. There are a lot of shops that offer a variety of items. You just have to know where to look.

Since I'm such a big Adele fan I again want to share the lyrics of one of her hit singles. It's one of my favorites along with Melt My Heart to Stone and Chasing Pavements. It's the first single in her best selling album 21. I love the lyrics of the song and what it wants to convey to its listeners. It's about moving on from a failed and somewhat abusive relationship. LA Galaxy vs. Philippine Azkals

I'm such a big fan of the Philippine Azkals that I've seen every one of their games shown on TV. My favorite Azkal is Phil Younghusband and Chieffy Caligdong. But I love all of them since they play so well and with so much intensity. And of course they're good looking. When I heard that they're playing the LA Galaxy way back in August I was really very excited. But I was shocked when I heard the ticket prices. I think it's like P15,000. I wouldn't pay that kind of money for a million years.

Anyhow, I'm still excited about the game. David Beckham and the rest of the team arrived yesterday and they too are excited to play here. I'm not expecting the Azkals to win but I'm sure they'll give a good fight. I'm going to tune in tomorrow at 7:30 at Studio 23. I'm sure there'll be lots of commercials but I wouldn't miss this game for anything.

Christmas Musings

Christmas is fast approaching and I can't feel the season's spirit yet. Time just flies so fast and I was a bit surprised when it sunk in that it's the first day of December and there's only 24 days left until Christmas Day. I haven't even bought a single gift for my family and friends. I feel it a bit when I go out and traffic's really bad. But not so much since it's always traffic here in the metro. I went to Newport Mall yesterday and there were minimal decors yet.

What I'm really excited about this month is the fact that my eldest sister and her family are coming home for a very brief, 5-day vacation. It would be a long time until we'll see them again because they're returning to the US after their 3 year-stay in China. I'm a bit sad about that. Anyhow, I'm already thinking of the places where we could eat. I really should start my shopping since I have to give gifts to my nieces.

I hope you guys are already feeling the Christmas spirit. Just a thought: forgive those who have done you wrong, be civil to your enemies, share your blessings to less fortunate people and last but not the least, always thank God for His undying love.

Favorite TV Shows

I love watching TV. When I'm not working I'd rather watch TV than go out and go clubbing. My being a couch potato makes me an expert in the TV shows that are currently airing. I love CSI Miami, Criminal Minds, Grey's Anatomy, House, Private Practice, NCSI Los Angeles, and a lot more. There are new shows that are airing now which I also love like The Walking Dead, New Girl, Grimm, and 2 Broke Girls.

1.) The Walking Dead - this is based on a comic series which is about a group of survivors led by Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes and his family. I love this show because it's suspenseful and really scary. But sometimes the very graphic and gory scenes get to me. It's something that children should not watch or else they'll have nightmares.

2.) New Girl - a story about Jess Day, a girl getting over her ex boyfriend who cheats on her. She then lives with 3 guys who eventually become her good friends. This sitcom is really funny. I love Zooey Deschanel. Even the guys are good. The episodes are very entertaining and you don't seem to notice the time when you're watching it.

3.) Grimm - A crime drama series about a homicide detective who sees monsters. I like the episodes which are rather interesting. I'd like to see if he has special powers to fight off these monsters.

4.) 2 Broke Girls - This is about two waitresses in New York who happen to become good friends eventhough their personalities are so different from each other. The other one is street smart while the other one is a former socialite who becomes bankrupt because of her father and is forced to work as a waitress to support herself. I love how each episode unfolds and the two girls are really funny.

Bulgogi Brothers Experience

I haven't seen my best friend in a while. I think the last time we saw each other was two months ago. When she texted me yesterday and invited me to have lunch with her I immediately said yes. We originally planned to go to Azuthai but it was still closed so we proceeded to Greenbelt 5. We walked around to look for a nice place to dine in, somewhere comfortable and where we can chat the day away. We decided to eat at Bulgogi Brothers since I'd like to try Korean food.

The ambiance was nice and the interior was simple yet cozy. The service was good as well, they were all attentive to our needs. The food was really delicious as well. I didn't expect it to be that good. We ordered Sogogi Japchae, Sogogi Beoseot Bokkeum, Bulgogi Bibimbap and had some watermelon shake. The price was also reasonable enough.

After having a good time at Bulgogi Brothers, I would definitely come back and try all the other dishes they have. I suggest you guys follow suit and visit Bulgogi Brothers.

Slow Sun Broadband Internet Connection

Since I have tons of things to do online everyday (it's my means of livelihood), it's a must that I have a fast and reliable internet connection. I'm almost online the whole day. I was so frustrated last night when I tried connecting to the internet and was unable to. My Sun Broadband USB stick which I'm paying P799 per month for went wonky on me. Loading took so long and I got disconnected so much. I didn't call their customer service right away since I thought the matter will be fixed this morning. Imagine my surprise when this morning the same problem persisted.

I transferred my network connection from WCDMA to Edge just so I can work. Loading one website took so long but since I wanted to finish something from my work load, I waited patiently. I again put off calling Sun's customer service since I was hopeful that connection would get better in the afternoon. Again, I was frustrated. I was at my wits end so I decided to call them. I stayed talking to the CSR (Customer Service Representative) for 30 minutes, doing troubleshooting for what seemed like hours. Unfortunately, it didn't do any good. He reported the matter to the technical department and advised me to monitor my connection.

My connection is better now, thank God. But I don't know until when. I just hope that what happened last night never happens again. I'm also thinking of changing my network provider to something that's more stable and reliable. I'm going to start researching for the best internet provider and get their service and hopefully never be at my wits end again.

I bought an iPod shuffle two weeks ago at Beyond the Box at the Newport Mall in Resorts World Manila. Since I'm so busy with a lot of things I still haven't transferred all the songs I have in my mobile phone. Only those I especially love listening to like Adele and The Fray. Plus this really awesome song by The Script entitled The Man Who Can't Be Moved. I know very little about this band and only appreciated their music when I heard this song. I googled them and found out that they're an Irish alternative rock band from Dublin. They've been here in the Philippines for a concert (I don't exactly know how many times already). Anyway, I just want to share their song which is currently one of my favorites. This song never fails to move me every time I hear it.

Microworkers Woes

I've been with Microworkers since 2009 and have had no problems with them. Not until now. I actually like them better than Minuteworkers because their tasks are easier to do and the employers are not that strict and approve the jobs I do almost all the time. As a matter of fact I have a high reputation in Microworkers. I reached payout twice and waited until I have $20 in my account until I withdrew my money.

I was so excited since the amount is already big for my standards. I wanted to buy a new bag so I was thinking of using that money to buy one online. Imagine my chagrin when I clicked the "Withdraw" button and the Paypal payment option was no longer there. I signed out and signed in again just to make sure. There were only two payment options namely Moneybookers and Alertpay. I have an account with Alertpay but don't really pay much attention to it because I've always used Paypal. I suddenly did research about Alertpay and explored my options. I found out that I couldn't transfer the money directly to my local bank account but could have the money (cheque) mailed or through bank wire transfer. If I have it mailed, $4 would be deducted and I would have to wait for a month. If I have it wire transfered, they'll deduct $15 but I'll have my money in 4 to 5 days. I opted for the 1st option since nothing would be left with my money if I choose the bank wire transfer.

I just lost the drive to work for Microworkers after that and started doing tasks again for Minuteworkers. They still pay via Paypal there. Though jobs are harder to get approved at least I could transfer my money to my bank in a few days after receiving it.

Delicious Mocha Magnifico

I seldom cook because I don't really have the talent for cooking. This fact sometimes frustrates me but it's something that I have accepted ever since I can remember. I may be good at other things, but I'll never be good in the kitchen. But since it's a Sunday and the whole family's at home, I decided to prepare a delicious dessert. I think I've done this recipe twice already and the result every time was perfect. I want to share it because it's a really yummy recipe and for sure everyone will enjoy it, not just the kids.

Mocha Magnifico

(2) 250 ml Nestle All Purpose Cream
(1/2) cup Carnation Condensada
(1) tbsp Nescafe Classic Dissolved in
(1) tbsp hot water
(14) pcs graham crackers
(10) pcs choco wafer sticks, crushed
(1) 70 g pack Nestle Knick Knacks, Choco

1.) Mix together Nestle All Purpose Cream, Carnation Condensada and dissolved Nescafe Classic. Set aside.

2.) Layer graham crackers on a square glass or aluminum container. Spread about 1/2 cup of the coffee-cream mixture on top of the graham crackers and sprinkle with crushed choco wafer sticks and Nestle Knick Knacks Choco for filling. Sandwich the filling with another layer of graham crackers and finish with the remaining cream mixture.

3.) Chill before serving.

This takes 15 minutes to prepare and needs to be chilled for 4 hours.

Asparagus in White Sauce

I'm not much of a cook but sometimes I do experiment and try my hand at cooking. I saw this contest by Athena milk in Facebook a couple of months ago where you're going to submit a healthy recipe using Athena milk as one of the ingredients. Although I didn't win the grand prize I won an Athena gift pack. And now I want to share my recipe to everyone.

Ingredients:

29 oz White asparagus; (2 cans)
2 tablespoon Margarine
2 tablespoon Unbleached flour
½ cups asparagus liquid
½ cups Athena Milk
4 oz bacon cut into bits
1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg freshly grated
¼ teaspoon Salt

1.) Drain asparagus spears and reserve ½ cup of the liquid.
2.) In a saucepan, heat the margarine.
3.) Add flour and stir.
4.) Pour in milk and asparagus liquid gradually.
5.) Over low heat, stir constantly until sauce thickens.
6.) Add cooked bacon, nutmeg, and salt.
7.) Gently stir in asparagus spears.

Pacquiao-Marquez III

I've always been a big fan of Manny Pacquiao. I've seen almost all his fights and have screamed my lungs out in every one of them. I along with some members of my family once again watched him fight Juan Manuel Marquez yesterday (November 13, 2011) at Kamayan/Dad's/Saisaki. I was so excited since there's so much hype surrounding this fight and because I love eating at Kamayan.

We bought our tickets two weeks ago so we were able to choose good seats. I think the ticket price of P950 is pretty much worth it since it's a breakfast and lunch buffet with refillable coffee and bottomless iced tea. There were so many food to choose from that I wasn't able to try all of them. But those I ate which included tocino, egg, fried rice, arroz caldo, salmon sashimi, maki, tempura, barbecue, buko pandan, and cheese cake tasted heavenly. I was so full I was ready to throw up!

I wasn't too happy with the fight though. My heart was pounding hard the whole time and I silently prayed that Manny would knock Marquez out cold. Manny was not his usual self and I wondered why. But then again I was still rooting for him to win. Everyone at the restaurant was silent after the end of the 12th round since we were not sure if Manny would win. When Michael Buffer announced that Manny won by a majority decision, everybody screamed in jubilation. Though, it wasn't a convincing win like his other fights, I'm still happy that Manny won. I personally thought that it should have been a draw but a win is a win and the judges have the final say. For those who are "attacking" Manny all I can say is that let's just be happy and support our kababayan and "Pambansang Kamao". No other Filipino has given so much pride to our country and let's give him the respect he deserves. As for Marquez, I respect him for fighting the way he did. He is truly one of the best boxers in the world today.

Getting Old

I always take care of my skin especially now that I'm in my 30's. I have more evident skin problems like fine lines, dryness, loss of firmness, thin and transparent skin, uneven skin tone and a lot more. Now more than ever I eat the right food and live a healthy lifestyle, as well as drink lots of water everyday. I also apply lots of moisturizers and follow my beauty regimen to a T. But sometimes I do feel that I no longer look as good as I did and that no amount of products and good food could bring back the glow I had when I was younger. It's frustrating at times but this is all a part of getting old and I have to accept it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this way. I'm not really very vain but looking good has always been important to me. I'm more confident when I know that I look good and people send me not just one but second glances. Let's face it, in this society of ours more opportunities seem to go our way if we're attractive and/or smart. It's something that I know should change and that this change would make our society a more comfortable and pleasant place to live in. With all of that said, it's still a must to take care of ourselves not just our appearance but also of our whole being.

This past two weeks transformed me into an Adele fan. Nursing a broken heart, I was looking for songs that would somehow reflect the feelings I had and kinda looking for something or someone that I could identify with. I've often heard the judges in American Idol raving about her and saying how good she is but never really heard her sing. Not until two weeks ago. Now I can never get enough of her. My day will never be complete if I don't hear her amazing voice. I just want to share my favorite Adele song here.

I'm a certified foodie alright. I love to eat and I'm quite adventurous in trying out different delicacies or types of food such as Filipino, Chinese, Italian, American, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese. But among all those cuisines, I seem to always come back for more Chinese. I like Beef Chaofan, Siomai, Tofu, Congee, and Siopao. But my favorite has and always will be Pancit Canton. Some of you might say that it's such a simple and "normal" dish but it's something that I really enjoy eating whether alone or with my loved ones, especially at dinner time (as pictured above). I usually order from Max, Chowking, and Savory but among the three, Savory's Pancit Canton is the best. It's flavorful, has a lot of ingredients like veggies, quail eggs, pork, fish ball, and chicken liver. Plus, the servings are quite generous so you get your money's worth. What I also like about this dish is that you no longer have to eat rice since it's already filling. Pancit Canton has been with us for the longest time and would stay in our hearts and most of all in our tummies for many more years to come. That I'm sure of.
